The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, founded by Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan in December 2015, is a new kind of philanthropic organization that brings together world-class engineering, grant-making, impact investing, policy, and advocacy work.
We want every child to grow up in a better world. Our goals for the future center on two ideas: advancing human potential and promoting equal opportunity. We are starting with science and education — areas in which systemic barriers limit individual progress. Our initial areas of focus include supporting science through basic biomedical research and education through personalized learning. We are also exploring other issues tied to the promotion of equal opportunity including access to affordable housing and criminal justice reform. And we are looking for top design talent to help us tackle our ambitious goals.
The Summit Learning Platform is a free online tool that helps students track progress towards their short and long-term goals, learn content at their own pace and reflect on their learning with mentors. It allows teachers to customize instruction to meet their students’ individual needs and interests.
Meta is a tool to help researchers maintain awareness of new research that can impact or accelerate their projects, fuel their interests and ideas, and connect them to their immediate communities.
Through collaborating with a variety of institutes and organizations, CZI is helping to design and build the data platform for the Human Cell Atlas, an international scientific initiative to create comprehensive reference maps of all human cells as a basis for both understanding human health and diagnosing, monitoring, and treating disease.
