We’re excited to announce our commitment to sponsor Brooklyn Beta again this year. We’re saving our lunch money to help back their Conference and new Summer Camp program (consider applying by this Thursday May 31st!). We agree with one of our most recent mentor additions, Cameron Koczon, that it’s an important time for design and it’s critical that we put our money where our mouth is and support our peers.
Personally I’m excited to collaborate more with Cameron, Brooklyn Beta and the whole Fictive Kin crew. I will be spending more time in NYC at Studiomates, most likely in July, to help out with Summer Camp along with other Designer Fund community members.
*Just to clarify, the Designer Fund isn’t an accelerator or incubator model. We’re a community of designers and operate like a philanthropic angel fund. Our mission is to organize and invest in the world’s best entrepreneurial designers no matter where they come from. Although we started off in Silicon Valley, we’ll be reaching out to great designers all over the world as we grow.
We’ve invested in entrepreneurial designers before they join an accelerator (including 500 Startups, YC, TechStars, AngelPad, io ventures, Rock Health and Summer Camp) like TinyReview, recent graduates of accelerators such as LaunchPad Toys and seed/series A funded designers like Neighborland who don’t really need our money but want our money to accept the challenge: if they succeed, they’ll reinvest in the next generation of designers creating businesses with positive social impact (not just make rich investors richer).
